Liz Klompaker Registers 10th Multi-Score Game
Liz Klompmaker scored twice for her 10th multi-goal game to give her 34 for her career which moves her into a tie with former Bear and USA Field Hockey Hall of Famer Renee Chatas for seventh place on Cal's all-time career goals list. Holly Pears also got into the scoring column along with Jaiya Labana who scored her first career goal.
Josefina Moyano found Klompmaker in the circle after she sealed off her defender at the 11:46 mark in the first period and she was able to whip around quickly for the score. In the second period, Klompmaker received a pass near midfield and dribbled it all the way into the circle and rifled in a goal from just inside the edge of the circle to put Cal up 2-0 just five minutes into the second period.
The Bears held the Chippewas scoreless until just five minutes left in the half when Central Michigan was able to score off of a penalty corner to go down 2-1 at the break.
Central Michigan wasted no time squaring the game even at 2-2 after taking the first possession of the second half all the way for a score just 28 seconds into the third period. The game remained tied for the rest of the quarter. In the fourth, Klompmaker passed it off the Maria Scocco on the right side of the circle and she quickly made a pass across the net that found Pears for the goal just over a minute into the fourth period. Later in the period, Klompmaker lasered a pass from just inside the circle over to Labana just off to the right of the net for her goal to give Cal the insurance with about 10 minutes left in the game.
"I was really proud of our Bears today and they came out and kind of picked up right where we left off," Donna Fong Co-Director of Field Hockey Tara Danielson said." "They started hot and were sharp, and then we fell away. And hats off to Central Michigan. They came, put some pressure on us, and the team kind of had to figure it out. We had to do some problem solving and relied on each other to connect, and we got back on target there in the end of the third and the fourth. What I'm really most proud about with this team is they're continuing to be resilient, believe in the process and use each other."
