Bears Unable To Hold Early Lead

SAN FRANCISCO – California men's soccer fell to San Francisco, 3-2, at Negoesco Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Golden Bears jumped out to an early lead, as Noe Morales scored on Cal's first shot of the game in the eighth minute. After another 13 minutes of play, Florentino Junior received two yellow cards, resulting in a red card and his ejection from the match. From then on, Cal was forced to play a man down, but the Bears didn't let it phase them. Kieran Bracken Serra netted a bicycle kick in the 24th minute to put Cal up 2-0.

Both teams continued to battle, but the Bears shut out the Dons for the remainder of the half while playing a man down, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Cal conceded its first goal in the 55th minute and later conceded two more in the 65th and 70th minutes. The Bears couldn't overcome the deficit and fell to the Dons, 3-2.

Morales and Bracken Serra each recorded their first goals of the season, with both goals coming unassisted. Thomas Grimes made his first start in goal, recording six saves for the Bears, while Cal recorded two additional saves as a team.

The Bears are back in action at Edwards Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m. PT against Pitt. The match is set to air on ACCNX.
