Fall 2016: Ended the fall with a 5-4 singles record...recorded three wins at the UCSB Classic...reached the round of 64 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships…partnering Nic Barretto, the pair reached the doubles round of 32 at the ITA Northwest Regionals and round of 16 of the Battle in the Bay Classic.

Spring 2016: Went 2-0 in doubles in his first two collegiate dual matches, teaming with Oskar Wikberg to beat Shoki Kasara/Jason Jaruvang, 6-4, in Cal’s 4-0 win over Arizona and also pairing with Wikberg to defeat Freddy Gelbrich/Marko Goles-Babic, 6-4, in the Golden Bears’ 4-0 win over San Diego State…was 3-4 in doubles and 2-5 in singles in his first season at Cal.
 
Fall 2015: Got to the singles semifinals at the UCSB Classic, beating LMU’s Alex Bourgeois, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0, to advance out of the quarterfinals...teamed with fellow freshman Ryan Shen to defeat Santa Clara’s Connor Garnett/Jeffrey Liang, 8-5, in doubles at the Aggie Invitational.

Personal/Previous: Undeclared major…ranked 95th nationally and 20th in California by the Tennis Recruiting Network among the class of 2015 recruits...led Menlo School to its seventh Central Coast Section and Northern California championships in 2015…won the 2015 CCS doubles title…named the 2015 Daily Journal Boys Tennis Player of the Year...parents Anne and Horacio Matta are former professional tennis players and now coach tennis in the San Francisco Bay Area.
