Bears Defeat Lions Before Hitting The Road
BERKELEY, Calif. – The California women's soccer team defeated Columbia Sunday afternoon at Edwards Stadium.
The Bears opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Reese Doherty found the back of the net off an assist from Elhom Khursand. The goal marked Doherty's first of the season and gave Cal a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Bears continued to hold off the Lions early in the second half before Columbia found the equalizer in the 65th minute to tie the match at 1-1.
Miriam Hils scored the game-winning goal unassisted in the 88th minute to put the Bears back on top.
With the win, Cal enters ACC play with a 2-2-3 record.
The Bears hit the road to open conference play against No. 9 North Carolina on Sept. 10. The match is set for 2 p.m. PST and will air on ACCNX.
