Bears Carry 2-Game Winning Streak Into Matchup in Durham
2026 Cal WSOC Match Notes, Week 8 vs. Duke
After prevailing in a road matchup against Boston College and in its final nonconference game at home against Fresno State, the Cal women's soccer team returns to ACC play with a matchup against No. 4 Duke in Durham, N.C., on Saturday. The Golden Bears own a 4-4-4 record (1-2-1 ACC).
The Golden Bears and Blue Devils last met in October 2024, when Duke earned a 2-1 victory. Saturday's matchup will mark the fourth meeting between the two programs and their second since Cal joined the ACC.
After the match at Duke, Cal will be idle until it heads across the bay to take on Stanford on Oct. 16.

BEARS CLOSE NONCONFERENCE PLAY WITH HOME WIN
Cal defeated Fresno State 2-0 on Sunday in its final nonconference matchup of the season. Jada Faison opened the scoring in the 46th minute with her first collegiate goal off an assist from Elhom Khursand, before Lizzie Vranesh added her first goal of the season and second of her career in the 70th minute off an assist from Emilia Eriksen.
Liya Nartey and Cara Borthwick made their first career starts, and Amelie Hoppe made her first start of the 2026 season. Skye Hair and Hope Luebbe Davidson each made their collegiate debuts.
BEARS EARN FIRST ACC WIN ON THE ROAD
Cal defeated Boston College in a Thursday evening matchup at Newton Soccer Field, earning its first ACC win of the season and improving to 3-4-4 overall and 1-2-1 in ACC play. Reese Doherty gave the Bears the lead in the 36th minute off an assist from Miriam Hils, and Alyssa Savig recorded four saves in the shutout victory.
CAL EARNS FIRST ACC DRAW AGAINST LOUISVILLE
Cal earned its first ACC draw of the season against Louisville 1-1 at Edwards Stadium on Sept. 20. Hoppe scored her first career goal to equalize the match, and Mia Van More made her first start of the season.
BEARS FALL TO NO. 3 WAKE FOREST
Cal fell 3-1 to No. 3 Wake Forest at Edwards Stadium on Sept. 17. Sophomore transfer Annamarie Williams scored her first career goal as a Golden Bear to equalize the match before the Demon Deacons found the net in the 77th and 84th minutes to secure the victory.
KLOS SIGNS WITH NEWCASTLE JETS FC
Former Cal midfielder Alex Klos signed her first professional contract with Newcastle Jets FC in Australia, as announced by the club Sept. 15. Klos is signed for the 2026-27 Ninja A-League season.
Klos was a two-year starter for the Golden Bears and a two-time All-ACC Academic Team member who completed her college career in 2025. During her time at Cal, she appeared in 40 matches and had 3,336 minutes played, three goals, five assists and 24 shots.
YEAR 3
Cal enters its third year in the ACC and was picked to finish 10th in the 2026 Preseason ACC Women's Soccer Coaches Poll. The ACC remains among the top conferences in the sport, with nine ACC teams advancing to the second round of the NCAA Championship last year. Cal will look to build on last year's ACC season, which featured several strong results.
2025 RECAP
Cal posted an overall record of 8-3-8 and a 4-2-4 mark in ACC play. The Bears finished eighth among 17 teams in the highly competitive ACC, narrowly missing a top-six finish and a spot in the conference tournament.
Cal earned a pair of ranked draws, battling No. 1 Virginia at home and No. 7 Florida State on the road to identical 2-2 results. Florida State went on to win the national championship. Cal recorded eight draws, including several against elite competition, but ultimately finished just outside the field for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Standout performers included forward Lumi Kostmayer, who emerged as the Bears' primary offensive threat and led the team across all major attacking categories. Kostmayer has since continued her career professionally in Denmark. Goalkeeper Teagan Wy anchored Cal defensively, helping the Bears navigate a number of tightly contested matches before signing with Gotham FC in the NWSL.
