Bears, Seahawks To Meet For First Time In Program History

California football (1-1, 1-0 ACC) will welcome Wagner (1-2, 0-1 NEC) to Berkeley this Saturday for the first-ever meeting on the football field between the two programs. Kickoff at California Memorial Stadium is set for 12:30 p.m. PT with the game to be shown live on ACC Network.

BEARS VS. SEAHAWKS
- Saturday's meeting will be the first between the Golden Bears and the Seahawks on the football field.
- Wagner has put together a 1-2 record in 2026, defeating Southern Connecticut State 31-7 two weeks ago. The Seahawks fell to Robert Morris in Week 0 and most recently dropped its contest at JMU last Saturday. Wagner finished third in the FCS Northeast Conference last season (5-7 overall, 4-3 NEC).
- Cal is 16-0 against FCS opponents dating back to 2005.
- The Bears will be playing their second-straight contest against teams from New York after defeating Syracuse 21-18 last weekend.

RANKINGS RUNDOWN
- First in the ACC and tied for fifth nationally in passes intercepted (4).
- Third in the ACC and tied for 22nd nationally in turnovers gained (4).
- Fourth in the ACC and tied for 34th nationally in sacks with four.
- Fourth in the ACC and tied for 33rd nationally in red zone defense (0.700).
- Fourth in the ACC and tied for 34th nationally in team passing efficiency defense (106.21).

KING OF THE INTERCEPTION
- DB Kingston Lopa tallied a career-best three interceptions in the Bears' win over Syracuse, making him the first Bear to record three interceptions in a single game since Jaylinn Hawkins intercepted three passes against TCU at the 2018 Cheez-It Bowl.
- Lopa now leads the nation in total interceptions (4) and interceptions per game (2.0) after also recording an interception against UCLA in Week 1.
- The last Bear to lead the nation in interceptions was Cal's Nohl Williams who finished the 2024 season atop the NCAA leaderboard with seven before being selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs.
- Lopa returned one interception 24 yards for a go-ahead touchdown, which was the first pick-six of his career and the first by a Bear since Williams' 40-yard interception return for a score against Miami on Oct. 5, 2025.
- Lopa returned his first interception against Syracuse a career-high 53 yards.
- Two of his three INTs in the game came in the fourth quarter.
- Lopa also added five tackles (4 solo, 1 assisted) to the stat sheet.
- He was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week, Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week, Chuck Bednarik Player of the Week and to the PFF National Defensive Team of the Week.

MOHAMMED MILESTONE
- RB Adam Mohammed surpassed 1,500 career all-purpose yards last Saturday at Syracuse. He now has 1,569 APY between three seasons of collegiate football played at Cal and Washington.
- In 2026, Mohammed's 127 all-purpose yards per game rank 7th in the ACC and 33rd nationally.
- Mohammed set career-highs of 28 carries and 120 yards rushing while adding a touchdown in his Cal debut against UCLA in Week 1. He also had a career-best seven catches for 46 yards against the Bruins. His 120 rushing yards were the most by a Bear in his Cal debut in at least 50 years.
- He ranks third in the conference and 22nd nationally in rushing yards per game (97.0) while his total rushing yards (194) are also third-best in the ACC and rank 26th in the NCAA. His 47 attempts are second-most in the ACC.
- Mohammed was added to both the 2026 Doak Walker Award Watch List and the Paul Hornung Award Watch List leading up to the season.
- In his 2025 campaign at Washington, Mohammed compiled 523 yards and five touchdowns on 116 carries while adding 17 receptions for 138 yards through the air in 13 games for the Huskies. He was rated as high as the sixth running back in the 2026 transfer portal by both 247Sports and On3.

GOOD THINGS COME IN THREES
- Cal's defense combined for three sacks, three quarterback hurries and three interceptions in the Bears' win at Syracuse.
- DB Daniel Harris registered a sack to make it two-straight games in which he took down the quarterback. He pushed the Orange's Steve Angeli back eight yards and against UCLA, was also credited with a sack for a loss of eight yards in his Cal debut. He also led the Bears with seven tackles this past weekend.
- LB Jayden Wayne was credited with 1.5 sacks against the Orange to push Syracuse back a total of eight yards. He now has 3.5 sacks in his career, all recorded at Cal.
- DL Jericho Johnson was credited with 0.5 sack, which was the first of his collegiate career.
- DL Nate Burrell registered a career-high two QB hurries at Syracuse while LB AJ Tuitele recorded his second QB hurry in as many games.

SAGAPOLUTELE SAILING THROUGH SOPHOMORE YEAR
- QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele finished 21-for-34 for 182 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions against Syracuse. He now has 22 career passing touchdowns.
- His 22.5 completions per game rank third in the ACC and 17th nationally and his 75 attempts are second-most in the league.
- Sagapolutele saw his streak of consecutive 200-yard passing games to start a career end at 14, which had tied the NCAA record. Houston's David Piland began his career with 14-straight 200+ passing yard games spanning the 2010-12 seasons (did not play in 2011).
- In 2026, he set the school record for the most consecutive pass attempts without an interception (210) versus the Bruins, previously set by Jared Goff (185). He also recorded his ninth career 250-yard passing game against UCLA, putting him in a tie for the seventh-most in Cal history.

RECEIVING CORPS EXPANDS
- Sagapolutele has completed passes to 10 different receivers in 2026.
- WR Ian Strong leads the Bears with 158 receiving yards and 19.8 yards per catch in 2026. He ranks ninth in the ACC in total receiving yards and average yards receiving per game.
- WR Chase Hendricks scored his second touchdown in as many games with a 14-yard grab against Syracuse. It was his 10th career touchdown and second at Cal after also scoring a touchdown against the Bruins.
- WR Jordan King scored his third career touchdown reception and first this season at Syracuse.
- The connection between Sagapolutele and returning TE Mason Mini holds strong with Mini totaling 96 receiving yards through two games, including a huge 38-yard grab against the Orange. He scored his fifth career touchdown pass against UCLA in Week 1.
- Freshman TE Taimane Purcell recorded the first two catches of his collegiate career at Syracuse.
- Sagapolutele has also completed passes to Mohammed, WR Cooper Perry, WR Kyion Grayes, WR Cole Boscia and RB Carter Vargas.
