Cal Makes Fourth Straight Appearance At The Event
California cross country is set for its third meet of the season at the Bill Dellinger Invitational, hosted by Oregon, on Friday. The Golden Bears will head to Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield, Oregon, with the men set to race at 11:15 a.m., followed by the women at noon.
This marks Cal's fourth consecutive year competing at the event. The course is made entirely of grass and is situated mostly on fairways, featuring two relatively flat loops — an outer loop and a finish loop.
The men will face Chico State, Idaho, No. 5 Oregon, Southern Utah, Saint Mary's, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Victoria (B.C.) and Weber State. The women will compete against Chico State, Hawai'i, Idaho, Oregon State, No. 7 Oregon, San Diego State, Southern Utah, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, USC, Victoria (B.C.) and Weber State.
Last year, the women finished fifth and the men placed seventh. Five Bears registered personal records or season bests, with six finishing in the top 40. Sophie Tau led the women, finishing eighth with a PR of 20:27.6. Justin Pretre highlighted the men, finishing 27th in 24:07.9.
Cal is coming off the Saint Mary's Invitational, in which the women finished second and the men placed third. Tau once again led the women, finishing second with a time of 20:14.5. On the men's side, Hayden Beauchemin was Cal's top finisher, placing ninth in 23:33.9.
In addition to Tau and Beauchemin, 10 Bears finished in the top 30. Sabine Kim (fifth), Fiona McGrath (ninth), Zoe Lahanas (26th) and Ava Kopec (27th) placed in the top 30 for the women, while Zac Gibson (13th), Kyle McNatt (22nd), Alex Lodewick (24th) and Sam Franco (27th) did so for the men.
