Bears Earn 2-0 Road Shutout Over Fighting Irish
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – California men's soccer rolled to a 2-0 win against No. 13 Notre Dame on the road Saturday night. The Golden Bears handed the Fighting Irish just their second shutout loss of the season.
The match began as a back-and-forth defensive battle, but Cal struck first in the 37th minute. Finley Reynolds recorded his first career goal to give the Bears a 1-0 lead against the ranked Irish. Beau Morrison was credited with the assist on the play, his first of the season. Cal took the momentum into the locker room at halftime, maintaining the shutout against Notre Dame.
Cal was not content heading into the second half, as the Bears came out and netted another goal in the 62nd minute. Callen Lewis scored his fourth goal of the season to extend Cal's lead. Jack Bowers recorded the assist, marking the first of his career.
The Bears had a few more offensive chances but worked the rest of the half defensively to keep the Irish from finding the back of the net. Cal ultimately defeated No. 13 Notre Dame by a final score of 2-0. The clean sheet marked the fifth of the season for Cal, with goalkeeper Adam Salama recording five saves in the defensive effort.
Cal continues its road trip at Virginia on Friday, Oct. 9, with the match set to air on ACCNX.
