WASHINGTON D.C. - No. 19 American tallied two second-half goals and defeated California, 2-0, Friday afternoon in Washington D.C. With the loss, the Golden Bears fall to 2-3, 0-1 on the season, while American improves to 4-2. Cal managed three shots on goal and goalkeeper Haleh Nourani posted two saves in the first half.

Junior Natalie Nurnberg and freshmen Deanna Kennedy and Rachelle Comeau recorded Cal's three shots on goal. As a team, the Bears had five shots.

American scored its first goal in the 47th minute as Emily Stovicek was able to beat Cal's keeper in the second half, sophomore Maddie Hand. Hand finished the game with a save and two goals against.

The second goal for American came in the 55th minute when Anne-Meike DeWiljes scored with a shot from the top of the circle off of a corner.

American outshot the Bears, 11-5, and earned six corners to Cal's four.

The Bears remain on the East Coast for the remainder of the weekend, facing Delaware on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. (PT) and No. 1 Maryland on Monday, Sept. 21, at noon (PT).
