Cal's Bobby Shaw Earns First Team All-America Honors

Cal receiver Bobby Shaw learned that he will be named to The Sporting News first team All-America squad next Wednesday, December 10.
The 6-1, 190-pound senior set Cal school records with 74 catches for 1,093 yards this past season. He also recorded 11 touchdown receptions in 1997. Shaw was one of only two receivers named to The Sporting News first team, along with Marshall wide receiver Randy Moss.
Shaw also was named to the Football News second team All-America squad in mid-November. He also was named to the first team All-Pac-10 for the second consecutive season.
Cal now has had four player earn first team All-America honors in the last three years with Tony Gonzalez earning those honors last season and Regan Upshaw and Duane Clemons picking up first team honors in 1995. Since the beginning of the 1991 season, Cal has had eight different players earn first team All-America honors.
In other post-season news, Cal freshman defensive end Andre Carter earned second team Freshman All-America honors as named by The Sporting News.
