Bears Secure One Point In ACC Opener
BERKELEY – California men's soccer opened ACC play with a 2-2 draw against North Carolina on Sunday, September 6, at Edwards Stadium.
The Golden Bears got off to a slow start, conceding in the 18th minute. Cal turned the momentum, however, sparked by a big save from goalkeeper Adam Salama in the 26th minute. The Bears would then equalize in the 42nd minute, with Junhwan Park netting his second goal of the season, assisted by Alex Hauschild. Just over two minutes later, California tipped the score in its favor with help from Callen Lewis, who scored his first goal of the season in the 44th minute. Finley Reynolds recorded his first career assist on the play.
Cal began the second half with a 2-1 lead and on the offensive, recording five shots before North Carolina could get its first of the half. The Bears did not allow a single Tar Heel shot in the second half until the 81st minute. Soon after, North Carolina would equalize in the 83rd minute. Cal pushed for more offensive chances, getting off two more shots before the clock ran out, but the match ultimately ended in a 2-2 draw.
Cal will conclude its homestand against Cal State Fullerton on Sep. 9, with the match set to air on ACCNX.
