Senior Defender Earns Second Career Honor After 2 Shutout Wins
Senior defender Malia McMahon of the California women's soccer team was named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday.
McMahon helped lead Cal to back-to-back wins, playing a key role on the Golden Bears' back line in two shutouts. Cal earned a 1-0 road victory over Boston College on Thursday for its first ACC win of the season before returning home to defeat Fresno State 2-0 on Sunday.
McMahon started both matches and logged 174 total minutes as the Bears held their opponents scoreless. She also contributed offensively with three shots, including one on goal.
The honor marks McMahon's first weekly award of the season and the second of her career. She previously earned ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors during the 2024 season. McMahon was also named to the All-ACC Academic Team last season.
