Cal Opens Fall Sevens Campaign In Los Angeles

Bears To Send Two Squads To First WC7s Tournament Of 2026
BERKELEY – California rugby opens its fall sevens campaign Saturday at the West Coast 7s Los Angeles, the first of three WC7s tournaments on the Golden Bears' schedule this fall. The full day of action is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT at Dignity Health Sports Park, with the Cup Final set for 3:20 p.m.
The Bears will send two squads to Los Angeles, with Cal I serving as the program's top side and Cal II competing as its reserve side this season. Cal will bring a 30-player travel roster, with representation from all class levels.
Last season, Cal competed in three WC7s tournaments in Los Angeles, Stanford and San Diego. The Bears top team went undefeated across the circuit, capturing all three tournament titles.
Saturday's tournament will begin with pool play in the Champion and Challenger divisions. Cal I will compete in the Champion Division's Pool A alongside Grand Canyon and Long Beach State's top sides. Pool B features Indiana, and top sides from Saint Mary's and University of San Diego. Cal II will compete in the Challenger Division's Pool C alongside the secondary sides from Long Beach State and USD. Pool D features Claremont, Mexico ANUIES and Saint Mary's secondary side.
Cal's roster this weekend features a mix of experienced student-athletes and newcomers. Four of the 30 players on the travel roster are new to the program and will make their collegiate debuts Saturday.
