The Bears Head to the Big Match

The California men's and women's golf teams will face the Stanford Cardinals for the seventh edition of the Big Match at the Menlo Country Club on Thursday.

The annual event features combined match play between both schools' men's and women's golf teams, starting at 12 p.m. PT. Tee times will be in 12-minute intervals at the first tee, in a best-ball match play format.

The Big Match debuted in 2018 and the Golden Bears won each of the first two showdowns. After a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it returned in 2022 and the Cardinals have won three of the last four matches.

The Cal men's team is coming off a ninth-place finish at the Sahalee Players Championship last week in Sammamish, Washington. Redshirt junior Sihao Cong set the tone in the 3rd round, carding an eagle and four birdies to lead the Bears to a top-10 finish.

The Bears' women's team is coming off a third-place tie in their season opener at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational earlier this week in Lexington, Kentucky. The Bears finished 1-under par as a team, led by Giselle Zhao, Constance Fouillet, and Michelle Woo, each finishing in the top 16 individually.

Stanford's women's team is the preseason No. 1 in the country, after winning the NCAA Championships last season.
