Alzas Leads the Way, Cong and Zhou Close Behind
MONTEREY, CA – The California men's golf team made an early statement at the Saint Mary's Invitational, holding a firm grasp on the top of the leaderboard throughout the opening round on the Bayonet Golf Course.
Freshman Callixte Alzas led the charge for the Golden Bears, carding eight birdies over 18 holes to finish the day tied for first individually. His impressive opening-round performance puts him in contention for the individual title as the tournament continues.
Redshirt junior Sihao Cong also delivered a strong showing, recording six birdies to finish the day 3-under-par and tied for 11th. Senior Ziqin Zhou added to Cal's momentum, finishing the round 2-under-par and tied for 17th to give the Bears three players inside the top 20 after day one.
The Golden Bears will look to build on their opening-round success as they return to the course Tuesday for the second round. With Alzas tied for the top of the individual leaderboard and Cong and Zhou close behind, Cal aims to carry its momentum into the second round.
Tee off for Cal begins at 10:17 a.m. PT.
