Cox and Cong post career-best finishes as Cal dominates the field in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, IN – The California men's golf team left no doubt at the Fighting Irish Classic, capturing its first tournament title since 2023 with a commanding performance from start to finish. The Bears shot a combined 1-over-par across three rounds, set the pace early and refused to relinquish their grip on the top of the leaderboard. Cal carried its momentum into the final round, closing out the tournament with a strong finish to secure the team title and cap a statement victory in South Bend.
Sophomore Trevor Cox led the Bears to victory, putting together a consistent performance across all three rounds. Cox recorded 11 birdies throughout the tournament and finished 5-under-par, tying for second place and posting a career-best individual finish. His strong play helped set the tone for the Bears.
Redshirt junior Sihao Cong also recorded a career-best finish, steadily climbing the leaderboard throughout the tournament. Cong saved his best for the final round, carding four birdies in 1-under 69 to move up the individual standings and contribute to Cal's team victory.
Redshirt senior Charlie Bundy also delivered a final-round 69, moving up the leaderboard to finish tied for 12th. His late push added another key performance for the Bears as they pulled away from the field and secured the tournament title.
The victory marked the first team tournament win for Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf, Michael Wilson, who guided the Bears to their first title since 2023. Cal's performance in South Bend capped a strong showing from the entire lineup and gave the Bears momentum as they continue their 2026-27 season.
