Cal Returns To Action In Concord For Second Meet Of The Season
California cross country is set for its second meet of the season at the Saint Mary's Invitational on Friday. The meet, hosted by Saint Mary's, will take place at Newhall Park in Concord. The men's 8k race will start at 8:45 a.m. PT, followed by the women's 6k race at 9:30 a.m. PT.
Cal is coming off the USF Invitational at Golden Gate Park, where the men took third place for the second straight season and the women claimed fourth. It also marked the first competition under new associate head coach Ryan Hill.
On the men's side, the Bears placed five racers in the top-30 — led by Kyle McNatt, Hayden Beauchemin and Kiefer Willcox finishing 12th, 13th and 14th place, respectively — in their collegiate debuts. Alexander Lodewick finished in 18th while Zac Gibson rounded out the top finishers in 26th.
The women's squad was highlighted by Sophie Tau's bronze-medal finish with a time of 20:32. Juniors Fiona McGrath and Sabine Kim also notched top-20 finishes placing 13th and 19th, respectively.
Following the Saint Mary's Invitational, Cal will head to Eugene, Oregon, for the annual Bill Dellinger Invitational on Oct. 9.
