Klos Signs With Newcastle Jets FC

Former Cal Midfielder Pens First Pro Contract
Former California women's soccer midfielder Alex Klos signed her first professional contract with Newcastle Jets FC in Australia, as announced by the club Tuesday. Klos is signed for the 2026-27 Ninja A-League season.
"We are so happy to see Alex achieve two of her lifetime goals of becoming a professional soccer player, and graduating with a world-class education," Cal head coach Neil McGuire said. "We watched as she dedicated herself to her craft with a commitment to excellence in every way. She is a truly wonderful person and a gifted player. We know she will have huge success and look forward to watching her progress."
Klos was a two-year starter for the Golden Bears and a two-time All-ACC Academic Team member who completed her college career in 2025. During her time at Cal, she appeared in 40 matches and tallied 3,336 minutes played, three goals, five assists and 24 shots.
A team captain as a senior, Klos was highly valued for her leadership and durability throughout her final season in Berkeley. She started all 19 matches during her senior campaign and logged 1,660 minutes, the third most on the team. Her consistency in the midfield made her a steady presence for the Bears, both in competition and within the program.
Klos reflected on her time at Cal and the opportunity to begin her professional career abroad.
"I'm incredibly excited to begin this new chapter, playing the sport I love on the other side of the world," Klos said. "None of this would have been possible without the Cal coaching staff, who gave me a chance after I transferred and believed in me from the beginning. Being a student-athlete at Cal changed me fundamentally, not just as a player but as a person, and pushed me to want more out of life. I can't wait to build something special in Australia, both on and off of the field."
Klos also ranked among the conference's top student-athletes, earning All-ACC Academic Team and CSC Academic All-District honors for her success both on and off the field. She was also named Cal's Transfer Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Prior to her time at Cal, Klos played at Santa Clara, where she appeared in 28 matches and made one start. She was also named WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention.
In Newcastle's announcement, Jets head coach Stephen Hoyle praised Klos' intelligence and technical strength in the midfield, highlighting her composure in possession and work ethic off the ball.
Klos has also gained professional and international experience through several special invitations and trial opportunities. NWSL club Bay FC invited Klos to join the club during an international window in April 2026, when she was named to the roster for an official cross-border exhibition match against Canadian side Ottawa Rapid FC.
She was later selected to join NWSL expansion side Boston Legacy FC for an international tour in Spain. Competing on a trial basis, Klos logged minutes across three matches against European opponents. Her upcoming stint with Newcastle Jets FC will mark the beginning of her first full-time professional contract.
Klos will join Arielle Ship and Sarah Griffith on the list of Cal alumni who have played for Newcastle Jets FC.
With Klos signing her first professional contract, all six members of Cal's May 2026 graduating class have now signed professional deals. She joins former teammates Teagan Wy (Gotham FC, NWSL), Noelle Bond-Flasza (Linköping FC, Elitettan, Sweden Second Division), Mia Fontana (AFC Toronto, NSL, Canada First Division), Lumi Kostmayer (Fortuna Hjørring, A-Liga, Denmark First Division) and Coco Thistle (Sporting Club Jacksonville, USL Super League, U.S.) in continuing their playing careers at the professional level.
