Guimaraes, Pickett Earn ACC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week Honors
California men's soccer swept the ACC weekly honors, with Lucca Guimaraes earning Offensive Player of the Week and D'Andre Pickett earning Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Guimaraes played a hand in two of Cal's three goals in its 3-1 victory over Stanford on Friday. The freshman assisted on the opening goal before scoring the game-winner in the 21st minute. His three-point performance marked his second multi-point outing of the season.
Pickett anchored the Bears' defensive effort against the Cardinal, making timely defensive stops and limiting Stanford's opportunities in front of goal. The senior also found the back of the net in the 60th minute to put the finishing touches on Cal's victory. The honor marks the second ACC Defensive Player of the Week award of Pickett's career.
Cal's victory over Stanford marked its third consecutive win in the rivalry series. The 3-1 result also propelled the Bears three spots up the ACC standings, securing the No. 10 seed heading into the conference tournament.
The Golden Bears head to Chapel Hill, N.C., on Wednesday to face North Carolina in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The match is scheduled to air on ACCNX.
