What Is The College Swimming League?
Cal is one of 12 NCAA programs competing in the inaugural season of the College Swimming League (CSL), a brand-new competition modeled after the International Swimming League (ISL). Each match features four teams battling head-to-head in a fast-paced, high-energy short-course yards format.
Last Time Out
The Golden Bears delivered a dominant performance at the Triton Invitational, with the men capturing first place with 993 points and the women earning a third-place finish with 628 points. Cal tallied 54 podium finishes, including 10 podium sweeps across nine events, while seven Bears posted top-10 times nationally in Division I.
Julien Rosseau (15:25.09) and Norvy Clontz (15:26.65) recorded the second- and third-fastest times in the men's 1650 freestyle, respectively, while Camille Henveaux clocked the nation's fastest time in the women's event at 16:09.05, that mark good for seventh fastest in Cal history. Henveaux also posted the eighth-fastest 1000 freestyle time in Division I during the meet in La Jolla.
In the 400 individual medley, Ian Platts-Mills (3:48.32) and Tim Wu (3:50.43) recorded the sixth- and ninth-fastest times nationally on the men's side. The women also made their mark, with Alexa McDevitt (4:10.84) and Kathryn Hazle (4:13.47) posting the fastest and third-fastest times in the nation, respectively.
A Dominant Start
Ryan Erisman kicked off the 2026-27 season in dominant fashion. The sophomore ran away with the 500 freestyle (4:08.55) in his first race of the season, finishing more than six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, breaking a CSL record, shaving more than two seconds off his personal-best mark and moving to No. 2 in program history in the event. Erisman then finished first in the 200 butterfly (1:41.68) before breaking yet another CSL record with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:32.12). His marks in the 200 and 500 freestyle are the fastest in the nation, while his time in the 200 butterfly ranks second in Division I.
The King of Breaststroke
Yamato Okadome is picking up right where he left off in the 2025-26 season, establishing his supremacy in the breaststroke. Okadome swept the breaststroke events at the third match of the CSL. The junior began his night with a first-place finish and a CSL record in the 200 breaststroke (1:50.88) before winning the men's 50-yard skins event and the 100 breaststroke (52.37). Okadome's 200 breaststroke time is currently the fastest in the nation, while his 100 breaststroke time ranks second.
New Names To Know
The men's and women's swimming and diving programs boast the nation's No. 1 and No. 5 incoming recruiting classes, respectively. The men's class is headlined by top-ranked Baylor Stanton, No. 5 Tim Wu, No. 7 Jordan Ragland and No. 10 Albert Smelzer, along with transfer additions Michel Arkhangelskiy and diver Justin Halford. The women's class is led by top-ranked Rylee Erisman and No. 9 Kelsey Zhang, with Ava DeAnda, Isabel Wolk and No. 2-ranked diving recruit Madeline Kohel among the class's other notable additions. Collectively, the classes add a wealth of talent and depth to both programs heading into the upcoming season.
