Pollard Finishes Third on Bruin Invite Three-Meter

LOS ANGELES, CALIF - Freshman diver Collin Pollard was again the Golden Bears' top finisher at the Bruin Invitational, placing third on the three-meter board Saturday (Jan. 12) in Los Angeles. Pollard, who had finished second in the one-meter competition (603.10) on Friday, only trailed Arizona's Rafael Quintero (739.90) and Stanford's Noah Garcia (683.90) on the three-meter board with a mark of 663.25 after tallying a score of 325.80 in the prelims.
Pollard has established himself as coach Todd Mulzet's top diver as a true freshman, already picking up a win in the one-meter competition (343.73) during the Bears' Nov. 3 dual meet victory over Wisconsin at Spieker Aquatics Complex. He hails from San Jose and his brother, Justin, lettered as a Golden Bear swimmer in 2007 and 2008.
Other results for Mulzet's divers during Saturday's three-meter competition included junior Quinton Mendoza finishing 16th with a score of 464.60 (222.45 prelims) and junior Grayson Huston was 17th with a score of 452.40 (223.00 prelims).
The Cal divers conclude the Bruin Invitational Sunday on the platform. Following the Bruin Invite, the Bears' swimmers and divers next compete Jan. 25 at Arizona and Jan. 26 at Arizona State in Pac-12 dual meets.
