Par Arvidsson, a native of Sweden, won the 100 butterfly at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow after setting the world record in the same event a couple of months earlier in Austin, Texas. He became Swedish champion 22 times between 1976 and 1983. While at Cal, he established school and NCAA records in the 100 and 200 fly, both events he won the NCAA title in 1979 and 1980. He was a member of the 400 medley relay which re-set the NCAA record in 1979 while winning the NCAA crown. He was a member of the NCAA Championship squad in 1979 and 1980. He also won Pac-10 titles in the 200 fly (1979) and 400 medley relay (1980). Arvidsson was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society, he was awarded an NCAA post graduate scholarship and was named a Top 10 NCAA Scholar-Athlete.
