Jon Baker is one of Cal’s few players to have lettered in all four years (1944-1948). He was a second-team all-coast performer in 1947 and earned first-team all-coast honors in 1948. The Bears won all but two games in 1947 and '48, winning the conference championship in '48 and playing in the 1949 Rose Bowl. He earned the Vard Stockton Award as Cal’s outstanding defensive player in the Rose Bowl as a linebacker. Baker also played Rugby during the 1947 and 1948 seasons. After graduating with a degree in civil engineering, Baker went onto a fine NFL career for the New York Giants, earning All-Pro honors in 1951 and 1952.
