Joe Kintana starred for the Bears on the basketball court from 1930-32 and was inducted into the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. He was a 6-0 starting forward for Cal in 1930-31, when he averaged a team-leading 6.1 ppg and helped the Bears to a PCC Southern Division title. The following season, he contributed a team-best 7.3 ppg as the Bears finished 16-8 overall and won the PCC championship. Kintana was named a first-team All-American that season by the Helms Athletic Foundation, as well as first-team all-conference. In addition, he was a two-time All-Southern Division choice.
