Forrest Beaty, a five-time All-American middle distance star at Cal who later became a physician, helped the Bears to an NCAA Championship in the mile relay in both 1964 (3:07.4) and ’65 (3:07.5). He finished second in the 440-yard dash in the 1965 NCAAs and was on Cal’s national runner-up mile relay team in 1966. Beaty won both the Pac-8 220 (21.3) and 440 (46.5) in 1965, while also helping the Bears to first-place finishes in the 440 relay and the mile relay. He tied for the school record in the 400m in 1965, a record which stood for 20 years. Beaty established a Cal freshmen record in 1963 as a member of the 4x100m relay team and was part of a then-Edwards Stadium record of 3:08.7 in the 1,600-meter relay set at the Big Meet in 1966.
