Edward G. “Bud” Chandler was the first Cal man to ever win the NCAA singles championship, which he did in 1925 and '26. The Santa Cruz, California, product also led Cal to the national team championship in 1925 and with Thomas Stowe captured the national doubles title in 1926. Chandler ranked No. 5 in the United States in 1926. In 1974 he was inducted into the USTA Northern California Hall of Fame, and in 1985 he was voted into the ITA Hall of Fame.
