Worked the all-around for Cal, providing depth at every event...according to Weiner, Bunthuwong was the best in the U.S. in artistry and does beautiful gymnastics with maturity...two-time All-American in parallel bars...one of the key contributors on the team...excelled on pommel horse...was co-captain with Evan Roth in 2009.
2009: Competed in all 12 meets for the Bears including the NCAA Individual Championships...established career bests in the pommel horse (15.200) and all-around (89.000) during the NCAA Team Championships...set another career high on the high bar (15.250) in the NCAA Team Qualifier round...set new career highs on the floor (15.450) and rings (15.100) during the Pacific Coast Classic as well as on the vault (15.750) against Penn State...advanced to the NCAA Individual Championships on the pommel horse...set the team record for the highest score of the whole season on parallel bars with a13.350 scored at the NCAA Team Qualifier.
2008: Took first place in the all-around against Stanford (Jan. 19) with a 88.45 and first on pommel horse (15.050)...at the Stanford Open on Jan. 26, paced the Bears on the pommel horse with a 14.800 for first...led the Cal representation on high bar at the Winter Cup Finals by finishing fifth...took second on p-bars Feb. 16 with a 15.350 to help the Bears win the event and the meet against OSU...won high bar at the Big Flip (March 9) by setting a then-personal best of 15.100...led the Bears to an upset over Penn State on March 15 by winning the all-around after taking first on pommel (15.100) parallel bars (15.650) and h-bar (15.100)...finished first on high bar at the MPSF Championships (April 5) with a 14.650...advanced to the NCAA individual championships on parallel bars, on which he finished 10th at 13.200...set the team's season high of 90.200 in the all-around on March 16.
2007: Set two non-FIG-scoring career highs at the NCAA Championships -- 8.750 on both pommel horse and vault...advanced to NCAA finals on parallel bars after scoring a 9.450 in the first round...competed on rings for the first time in his college career...earned All-America honors on parallel bars...selected as an Academic All-MPSF scholar athlete...took eighth place on parallel bars in the individual round at NCAA with a 9.000...helped the Bears upset No. 3 Ohio State (March 3) with a then-career best on rings (8.800) and a season-high on high bar (9.250).
2006: Finished in first place with his career-high 9.525 score on the parallel bars against Penn State...scored an also impressive 9.275 on the parallel bars at the MPSF Championships...reached his career high of 9.450 on the high bar twice during the 2006 campaign, at the NCAA Qualifier and against Penn State...led the Bears on the floor exercise at the NCAA Championships with a score of 9.250.
2005: Member of Golden Bear Gymnastics Club, at which he was awarded the 2005 MVP...team was also state champion in 2005...won the all-around of the junior division of men's gymnastics at the 2005 Visa Championships in Indianapolis with a score of 92.225.
Personal: Competed at the Pacific Alliance Championships in Honolulu as well as the Pan American Games in San Salvador, El Salvador...competed at the 2005 International Junior Gymnastics competition in Yokohama, Japan...an honors graduate of El Cerrito High School...aspires to compete in the Olympics and World Championships...best sports moment includes receiving a perfect 10.0 on pommel horse at the Junior Olympic Nationals in 2005...has one younger brother, Kyle, who is a junior on the team...mother is a Cal graduate....majored in political economy of industrial societies...parents are Suzanne and Virat Bunthuwong.
