BERKELEY - Seven affiliates of the Cal men's golf program will be participating in sectional qualifying across the nation Monday in an attempt to qualify for the 2013 U.S. Open to be played June 13-16 at the Merion Golf Club's East Course in Ardmore, Pa.

Current golfers Brandon Hagy and Michael Kim will attempt to join teammate Michael Weaver in the field as amateurs. Former Golden Bear Max Homa, who finished his collegiate career last Saturday at the NCAA Championship but is still an amateur, and current professionals James Hahn, Stephen Hale, Peter Tomasulo and Charlie Wi are also playing in sectional qualifying.

Weaver received an exemption to the 2013 U.S. Open by finishing as the runner-up last August at the 2012 U.S. Amateur.

Sectional qualifying is the final stage before U.S. Open hopefuls get to the championship itself. The USGA offers 13 sectional sites - 11 in the U.S. that will take place Monday and two overseas in Japan and England that have previously taken place. Nearly 1,000 golfers will compete Monday at one of the 11 U.S. sites in a one-day 36-hole event at the sectional qualifying level for the approximately 75 remaining available spots in the U.S. Open.

Hagy and Kim will be at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Ga., where the top three players from the field of 51 at the site will qualify for the U.S. Open.

Homa will play at Newport Beach Country Club, where the top five players in the field of 102 will move on the U.S. Open.

Hahn will play at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ohio, where there are two spots available in the U.S. Open from the field of 39.

Hale will play on the North Course at Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tenn., where there are nine spots available in the U.S. Open from a field of 111.

Tomasulo will play at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md, where there are eight spots available in the U.S. Open from a field of 122.

Wi will play at the Lakes Golf & Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, where the top 15 finishers in a field of 121 will qualify for the U.S. Open.
