Vera to Start at Fullback
Head coach Tom Holmoe announced that junior Marc Vera will make his first start
of the 1997 season at fullback against Arizona State on Saturday. Vera is
averaging 6.8 yards per carry this year, but has only carried the ball 8 times
for 54 yards. He is the team's third leading receiver with 15 catches for 142
yards.
He replaces sophomore Joshua White who has been suspended for one game for
displinary reasons by Holmoe. White, who has carried 41 times for 139 yards
(3.4 average) and 3 touchdowns, is expected back as a starter for next week's
game at Arizona.
Holmoe also indicated that his team is in good health for the ASU game
Saturday. Bobby Shaw is in full health while John McLaughlin, who has a hip
pointer, expects to play a good amount in a reserve role at defensive end.
