Cal Makes Change at Defensive End
Cal head coach Tom Holmoe announced today that junior defensive end John McLaughlin would get his first start tomorrow against USC. McLaughlin, a transfer from Notre Dame who sat out last season while redshirting, replacing sophomore Mawuko Tugbenyoh. Holmoe said both players would get significant playing time in the playing rotation. McLaughlin has been extremely active during his playing stints the first two games, registering 5 tackles thus far, one pass deflection and has caused one fumble. He is also an extremely valuable member of Cal's special teams, particularly kickoff coverage.
Holmoe also announced that James Gibson would start at nose tackle in place of Jeremiah Parker. Gibson started the Houston opener while Parker got the nod last week against Oklahoma. Both will see significant playing time.
