Shaw, Newberry and Whiting Earn Awards at Cal Football Team Banquet

Cal wide receiver Bobby Shaw was named Cal's Most Valuable Player during the team's annual football banquet Sunday night at H's Lordships Restaraunt in Berkeley.
Shaw, who set school records with 75 catches and 1,093 yards, also won an award for community service.
Other notable award winners were senior defensive tackle Brandon Whiting, who won the Brick Muller Award for most valuable lineman on defense and the Joe Roth Award for courage, attitude and sportsmanship, and junior center Jeremy Newberry who was the Brick Muller Award winner for most valuable offensive lineman as well as the Stub Allison Award for most inspirational player.
Shaw, Newberry and Whiting were selected by their teammates as captains for the 1997 season.
