A versatile two-way prep star who the Bears project at linebacker where his
4.65 speed should pay dividends...rushed for 2054 yards and 25 TDs as a
senior running back...also recorded 91 tackls, one sack and one
interception as a safety last season...accounted for 4475 rushing yards in
his 3-year prep career...best game as a prep came against No. 1 ranked Live
Oak HS in 1996 when he gained 284 yards on 37 carries and 2 TDs in a 35-32
upset win...earned SuperPrep All-Far West honors as the No. 96 overall
prospect in the region...also a member of the PrepStar Western Region
team...an excellent student who comes to Cal with a 3.56 GPA and plans to
major in business at Cal...has diabetes, but hasn't let that deter his play
on the football field...coaches love his attitude and feerless tackling
abilities...reminds some of fellow Leland HS grad Pat Tillman who emerged
under the coaching of Cal defensive coordinator Lyle Setncich at Arizona
State where he earned 1997 Pac-10 Player of the Year honors, because of his
relentless style of play and nose for the football...his sister is actually
engaged to Tillman and they plan to marry this spring...acutually has
another sister, Christine, who is engaged to Alex Garwood, a former player
under Lyle Setencich at Cal Poly SLO...chose Cal over Arizona State and Air
Force, among others...lists weight-lifting, swimming and snow skiing among
his hobbies and the Tampa Bay Bucs as his favorite pro team...parents are
Paul and Belinda Ugenti...born Jan. 3, 1980 in San Jose, CA.
