An extremely strong player who figures to immediately provide a physical presence to Cal's interior line...can play either of the tackle positions, but figures to push for starting duties in replacement of the graduated Brandon Whiting...has superior power as evidenced by a 500-pound bench press and a 700-pound squat press...played just one year at Dixie JC after transfering from the University of Hawaii...missed part of his sophomore season at Dixie with a sprained knee, but came back to play in a 76-21 bowl victory over Lackawanna JC from Pennsylvania...recorded an interception in that game...helped Dixie to an 11-1 record and a No. 3 national ranking...originally attended Orem HS and signed a letter-of-intent with Hawaii out of high school...redshirted at Hawaii in 1995 and played there in '96 before elected to return to the mainland and transfer to Dixie...led Orem HS team to Utah 5A state championship his senior year...was regarded by many as the top recruit in the state of Utah in 1995...earned USA Today honorable mention All-America honors..chose Cal after considering offers from UCLA, Illinois and Wyoming....also was an excellent track athlete as a prep, breaking the school discus mark that had stood for 25 years...lists weight lifting and martial arts as hobbies and Howie Long as his favorite athlete...has served as a volunteer as a peer tutor for the handicapped in Utah....father Kerry S.
