Wright Takes Six Bears to the Pacific Invitational, While Browne Takes Three to the USTA Event
Former California men's tennis player and team captain Tyler Browne is in his sixth season on the coaching staff for the Golden Bears. The Cal alumnus is in his first season as an associate head coach, after spending the previous five years as a Cal assistant coach. He was elevated from his duties as an undergraduate student assistant and hired on Aug. 11, 2008.
Browne joined the Golden Bears with a year of experience under his belt as an active undergraduate assistant with the team, helping Cal to a 13-11 overall record, and fourth place in the Pac-10 conference with a 4-3 mark. In 2008, the Bears received a bid to the NCAA tournament for the eighth consecutive season, and advanced to the second round.
As a player, Browne posted a 72-59 overall singles record and added 46 doubles victories in four years on the court. He was ranked as high as No. 56 in singles and No. 12 in doubles with partner Conor Niland. As a junior, he was selected to the 2006 All-Pac-10 team and received honorable mention in 2007. Browne served as the team captain during the 2006-07 season and was an active member of the Bear Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
A native of Walnut Creek, Calif., Browne received a degree in sociology in 2008 and currently resides in San Francisco.
