Ashley Walker continued her phenomenal start to the 2007-08 season by posting double-doubles in Cal victories last week over UC Riverside and New Mexico, earning the forward/center the honor as the Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week.
Walker, a junior, posted 25 points and 10 rebounds, becoming the 18th 1000-point scorer in Cal history, to help the Bears beat the Highlanders, last year's Big West champions. The Modesto, Calif., product added 11 points and 13 rebounds in the come-from-behind victory over the Lobos on Sunday. Against New Mexico, Walker hit a jumper to tie the game at 44-44 with three minutes to go and made a layup to put the Bears ahead for good at 46-44 against the 2007 NCAA Tournament qualifier.
In the two games, Walker hit 12-of-20 shots from the floor and 8-of-9 free throws, posting her 22nd and 23rd double-doubles of her career.
