The Golden Bears Will Face Two Of The Hottest Teams In The Country
The California Golden Bears volleyball team is on the road this week, as they will begin ACC play after one of their strongest nonconference showings in the past few seasons.
The Golden Bears will head into ACC play with a 10-1 record on the year, with their lone loss of the season coming against Saint Mary's in five sets. Cal is also riding an eight game winning streak, which is their longest since 2023 when they rattled off 12 in a row.
While the Bears have been tested multiple times this season with three victories going to five sets, they simply have not faced the caliber of team that they'll be seeing this week. Cal is set to face off against two top five teams in the AVCA Rankings, opening the road trip up against the No. 2 Pitt Panthers (10-0), before heading to Dallas to take on the No. 5 SMU Mustangs (8-2).
The Panthers are currently riding a 56-game winning streak at home, spanning across three different arenas and dating back to 2023, and they have also yet to drop a set at Victory Heights Arena this season. They have notable wins over No. 3 Kentucky, No. 15 Kansas, No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 17 Tennessee.
