Expanded Coverage Includes Podcast With Justin Allegri
BERKELEY - California football has announced the addition of Bay Area sports media personality Greg Silver to its expanded media coverage for the 2026 season as the Golden Bears' official digital reporter. Silver's duties will include exclusive on-camera reporting posted to the Cal Football social media channels in addition to the newly created "Inside Cal Football: The Podcast" co-hosted with Justin Allegri - the current voice of the Bears' football and men's basketball radio broadcasts and the weekly "Inside Cal Football" television show on NBC Sports Bay Area.
Silver, a Davis native and longtime Cal Athletics supporter, has spent the last four years covering both professional and collegiate sports across the Bay Area for various outlets. He has delivered live reports from key community events - including Super Bowl LX, the NFL Combine, and San Francisco Giants FanFest - and has been a play-by-play broadcaster for Cal field hockey, water polo and lacrosse contests, as well as Sacramento semi-pro women's soccer organization, the California Storm. Silver began his career on the call for his alma mater, UC Santa Barbara, reaching the airwaves on both KCSB-FM 91.9 and ESPN+ across multiple Gaucho sporting events.
For the last two years, Silver notably co-hosted and produced the KNBR midday show, "Papa & Silver," with voice of the San Francisco 49ers, Greg Papa.
Silver's appointment as the inaugural Cal football digital reporter expands his portfolio with the Bears after he co-hosted the pregame and postgame shows with former Cal and NFL running back Patrick Laird last season. Silver and Laird will continue to join forces for the "Cal Football Postgame Live" program, which will air live following every game this season on NBC Sports Bay Area. For all home games, the live taping will take place on the Lisa & Douglas Goldman Plaza at California Memorial Stadium for fans to engage with in-person.
Allegri, who was named the voice of the Bears in 2023 and has also been heard across the Bay Area as a play-by-play announcer for the 49ers and the San Jose Giants, will join Silver for a podcast set to air weekly on Fridays. Episodes will include in-depth analysis of the debut season of Travers Family Head Football Coach Tosh Lupoi and his 2026 football squad, in addition to exclusive storylines from off the gridiron. Listeners will be able to enjoy the podcast on all major distribution channels (Spotify, Apple, Varsity Network App) in addition to the Cal Football YouTube page.
"I'm honored to be part of a new and exciting chapter of Cal football," Silver said. "From the triple-overtime win over USC in 2003, to Marshawn Lynch famously driving the golf cart, so many of my favorite memories as a sports fan are covered in Blue & Gold. This team and its fans deserve the best coverage possible for the next batch of unforgettable moments. Let's get to work."
