Bears To Begin Broadcasts Of Home Games In Multiple Languages
For the first time in the program's 144-year history, California football games will be available in Spanish.
Beginning this season, the Golden Bears will offer a Spanish livestream during every home game on the Cal Football and Cal Athletics Youtube pages.
"Not every school has the opportunity and resources to embark on a venture like this," said Hispanic Football Hall of Famer and Cal Football Athletic Director and General Manager Ron Rivera. "Over a quarter of the San Francisco Bay Area population is Spanish-speaking, and we want them to be a part of what we are building in Berkeley."
Carlos M. Ramirez, Jesus Zarate and Enrique Zarate will team up to introduce the Bears to Spanish-speaking fans this season.
In addition, Cal Football will begin a new Spanish Instagram page - ,"vamososos" - that will capture the content of the main football page with Spanish subtitles along with unique content in Spanish.
Ramirez, who currently serves as a broadcaster on AppleTV for Major League Soccer and also works for NFL International in various roles, is set to make his Cal Football broadcasting debut against Clemson on Sept. 25.
Jesus and Enrique Zarate will broadcast the first-ever California football game in Spanish on Sept. 5 when the Bears open the 2026 season against UCLA at California Memorial Stadium. Both Jesus and Enrique Zarate currently serve as the lead Spanish play-by-play broadcasters for the San Francisco 49ers.
Cal now joins a short list of programs across the country to offer fans a Spanish option for football coverage.
