Cal Men’s Rowing Collects Medals At Senior Worlds

Rustenburg Helps Host-Nation Set World Record In Men’s 8+
AMSTERDAM – California men's rowing alumni brought home several medals at the 2026 World Rowing Championships held this past week in Amsterdam at the historic Bosbaan rowing course. A whopping 17 Golden Bears represented 10 different nations at the senior international competition, with six former Cal rowers combining for seven medals won.
Wibout Rustenburg ('21) won gold with the host-country in the men's eight to help the Netherlands claim back-to-back world championships in the men's eight and land atop the competition's medal table on their home waters. Rustenburg and the Dutch crew made history as the first crew to break 5:18 in the men's eight as they defended their title in a thrilling photo-finish over Great Britain in the finals with a world-record final time of 5:17.75.
For Australia, Harry Manton ('25) and Jack Robertson ('21) took bronze in the men's eight while Frederik Breuer ('25) notched fourth place with Germany and Wilson Morton ('25) and Nathan Phelps ('24) took fifth in the same event for the United States. Campbell Crouch ('23) and Ollie Maclean ('23) finished second in the B final with New Zealand while Kazmir Ziven Kujda ('24) came in fifth in the B final of the men's eight with Poland.
Gus Rodriguez ('23) brought home a gold medal for Team USA in the men's four to help the U.S. finish tied for second in the final gold-medal count. Maclean finished in sixth place in the men's four for New Zealand.
Angus Dawson ('25) won silver in the men's pair for Australia while Leonard Brahms ('25) finished third in the men's pair C final for Germany.
In the men's double sculls, Martin Mackovic ('18) claimed the silver medal for Serbia while Josh Knight ('26) finished fifth for Great Britain.
Rodriguez won bronze in the mixed eight for Team USA to be one of 23 athletes at the entire competition who earned two medals, while Brahms came in fifth place with the German crew.
Also representing their nations as spares were 2026 Cal graduates Alexander Baroni (Australia), Gennaro di Mauro (Italy) and Tim Roth (Switzerland).
