SAN JOSE, Calif. – The California softball team (26-11) dropped its road contest to San Jose State (17-20), 1-3, Tuesday evening at the Spartan Softball Complex in San Jose, California.
Acacia Anders led the Golden Bears after going 3-for-3 on the day with one RBI, while
Elon Butler tallied two hits and accounted for the lone run. Anders has registered three hits in back-to-back games and is now two away from her 200th career hit.
Cal struck first in the opening inning after
Acacia Anders found the gap in center field for an RBI double, giving the Bears a 1-0 advantage midway through the first. The Spartans quickly responded by tying the score in the bottom of the first.
The Spartans added another run on the scoreboard in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead and then hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to improve their lead to 3-1.
The Bears got the game-tying run aboard in the top of the sixth inning with back-to-back hits to open the frame. Both base runners executed a double steal to advance to second and third base. The Spartans avoided the jam and held on to the victory.
