BERKELEY – The No. 16 California women's tennis team closed out its 2025 home schedule Saturday with a hard-fought showdown against No. 7 North Carolina, ultimately falling 4-2 in ACC action at the Hellman Tennis Complex.

The Tar Heels (18-4, 9-1 ACC) won the doubles point and extended to a 3-0 lead after taking the first two singles matches, but the Golden Bears (11-6, 8-2) held strong after Jessica Alsola knocked off 18th-ranked Thea Rabman 6-2, 6-3. Cal then sliced the deficit to 3-2 when Berta Passola Folch defeated UNC's Alanis Hamilton 7-6 (8), 6-1.

The final two singles matches were tight affairs, but the Tar Heels closed it out when sixth-ranked Reese Brantmeier got by the Bears' 25th-ranked Mao Mushika 6-4, 7-6(4). Cal's Lan Mi was leading North Carolina's Tatum Evans 7-6 (6), 4-4 when the match ended.

The Bears close out the regular season with an East Coast swing to No. 12 NC State and Wake Forest next weekend.
