BERKELEY – The California softball team (31-18, 7-13 ACC) dropped the second straight game of the series to No. 14 Virginia Tech (39-7, 17-3 ACC), 9-0, Saturday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Field.
The Golden Bears quickly fell behind after another lead-off home run from Cori McMillan to give the Hokies a 1-0 advantage.
The Hokies followed that up with a two-run home run from Michelle Chatfield in the second inning to increase their lead to 3-0.
The Bears were held to two hits through five innings of action as the Hokies boasted a 5-0 lead.
Virginia Tech tacked four runs on the scoreboard in the latter part of the game en route to a 9-0 shutout victory.
UP NEXT
Cal will conclude the three-game series on Sunday against Virginia Tech beginning at noon. The Bears will conduct a senior day ceremony before the first pitch.
