BERKELEY, Calif. – The California softball team (27-12, 6-7 ACC) fell in the series opener to No. 9 Florida State (38-6, 18-2 ACC), 8-1, Thursday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Field.
Senior
Acacia Anders tallied the 200th hit of her stellar career in the bottom of the fifth inning with a base hit to center field.
Kaylee Pond and
Mika Lee recorded two hits to lead the Golden Bears.
The Bears fell behind early, trailing 4-0, heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. With runners on first and second base, Cal tacked on its lone run on the scoreboard when
Mia Phillips knocked in a base hit, allowing
Tianna Bell to score.
The Seminoles continued to pull away in the sixth inning after scoring two runs due to a two-run home run by Jahni Kerr. Florida State put the finishing touches on the game by adding two runs in the seventh inning to claim an 8-1 victory.

The two teams will face off again on Saturday for the second game of the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.
