BERKELEY - The California softball team (19-4) won the third and final game of the series to secure the sweep against Boston College (10-8), 4-3, on Sunday at Levine-Fricke Field in Berkeley, California.
After a slow start through two innings of play, Boston College struck first in the top half of the third inning after scoring a run off a double by Hannah Slike.
The Golden Bears responded in the frame when
Lagi Quiroga knocked in a base hit to bring a runner home from second base.
The Eagles put two runs on the board after recording a solo home run and an RBI single to take a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Tianna Bell tallied her third home run of the series and sixth of the season to cut the deficit to one run after four innings (3-2).
After a quick three up and three down for
Ryann Orange in the top of the fifth inning, the Bears reclaimed the lead with a base hit from
Kaylee Pond that drove in two runs (4-3).
Orange shut down the Eagles for the remainder of the game, earning her fifth win with four strikeouts.
UP NEXT
Cal is set for a midweek contest against Sacramento State on Wednesday at Shae Stadium in Sacramento.
