SACRAMENTO – The California softball team (20-4) earned its 14th consecutive victory after defeating Sacramento State (12-12) in run-rule fashion, 11-1, at Shea Stadium in Sacramento, Calif.

With the win, the Golden Bears matched their longest win streak since 2013, when that team won 22 games in a row. The last time the Bears went on a 14-game win streak was a season ago, which resulted in an NCAA regional appearance.

Cal used a four-run opening inning to take control of the game early. After finding the gap for a double in the first at-bat of the game, Lagi Quiroga made her way home after a fielding error by the Hornets. Later in the frame, Mika Lee knocked in a two-RBI double, improving her hitting streak to five games. Mia Phillips brought in the final run of the inning after grounding out to second base, allowing Kaylee Pond to score and giving the Bears a 4-0 lead.

The Bears used another four-run frame in the third to extend its lead to 8-0. Lee continued her day with a three-run home run, her second of the season, to clear the bases. In her second start of the season, D'Auna Johnson recorded her second hit of the season with an RBI base hit to center field.

After giving up a solo home run at the bottom of the third inning, the Bears responded by scoring three runs in the fourth inning. One run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Phillips, followed by the two runs scored due to wild pitches by the Hornets, giving Cal an 11-1 lead heading into the fifth inning.

Miranda De Nava earned her seventh win of the season after pitching four innings with five strikeouts and surrendering one run. Kiki Mashhoud came in as a relief pitcher in the fifth inning to put the finishing touches on the game and secure two strikeouts to close the game.
