BERKELEY - The California softball team (18-4) picked up a run-rule victory against Boston College (10-7), 12-4, on Saturday at Levine Fricke Field in Berkeley, California.
After a back-fourth game through three innings of play, the score was even at four. In the bottom of the first,
Elon Butler tallied her fifth home run of the season with a two-run shot to left field.
Tianna Bell followed shortly after with her two-run home run, her fifth of the season, to give the Bears a 4-0 lead.
The Eagles responded with a solo home run at the top of the second as they managed to even the score after tacking on an additional three runs in the third.
The Bears used a seven-run fourth inning to take a commanding lead. With runners in scoring position, Butler blasted a double to right field to bring two runners across the plate. The Bears loaded the bases after back-to-back walks.
Bell knocked in a two-RBI double, extending the lead to 8-4. In the next at-bat,
Mika Lee drove a base hit to left field as another runner scored. Cal took a 10-4 lead after tacking on another run due to an error by the Eagles.
Lagi Quiroga came up to bat with the bases loaded and forced a walk to give the Bears an 11-4 lead heading into the fifth.
The Bears got the game-winning run in scoring position after two straight base hits.
Mia Phillips ended the game with an RBI double to secure the walk-off rule-run victory.
UP NEXT
Cal will look for a series sweep tomorrow against Boston College, with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
