Bears Take Road Game Against Aggies

Cal Extends Winning Streak To 10 Games

DAVIS – The California softball team (16-4) opened week five with a win in a midweek contest on Wednesday against UC Davis (5-16), 7-3, at La Rue Field in Davis, Calif.

Cal took advantage of early misuse by the Aggies to score four runs in the opening inning, led by Lagi Quiroga, who sent a solo shot to straight-away center field, her sixth home run of the season. Quiroga has hit a home run in the game's first at-bat on five occasions this season.

The Golden Bears continued to add to the scoreboard after Acacia Anders hit an RBI double to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. Later in the frame, Kaylee Pond scored due to a fielding error by the Aggies, extending the lead to 3-0. Nailyn Marshall helped Cal score its fourth run of the inning after she hit an RBI double down the right-field line.

After leading off the second inning with a double, Mika Lee got into scoring position thanks to a wild pitch by the Aggies. Lagi Quiroga forced another error on the Aggies, allowing Lee to score. In the bottom of the second, Mickey Buscemi of UC Davis knocked in an RBI single to cut its deficit to 5-1.

The Aggies earned another run at the bottom of the third inning after forcing a walk with the bases loaded. Ryann Orange responded with three consecutive strikeouts to retire the side and leave three stranded.

Anders came up clutch in the fourth inning after lining a single down the first base line to score two runners, securing her second and third RBI of the day to give Cal a 7-2 lead.

After tacking on a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Aggies were held scoreless for the remainder of the game once Ashanti McDade took the mound, notching a game-high four strikeouts in 3.2 innings of action en route to her first save of the season.
