BLACKSBURG, Va. – Naomi Xu clinched the 26th-ranked California women's tennis team's 6-1 rout of No. 54 Virginia Tech on Sunday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center, with the Golden Bears capturing their eighth straight victory.

Cal's record improved to 9-4 overall and 6-0 in the ACC. The Hokies are 11-8 (0-7).

The Bears took an early lead when they won the doubles point. The tandem of Berta Passola Folch and Naomi Xu got the match started with a 6-3 win over Virginia Tech's Semra Aksu and Ozlem Usu on court three. Playing on court one, the pair of Jessica Alsola and Greta Greco Lucchina secured the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph over Arina Gamretkaia and Tara Gorinsek.

"We've really been working hard on different skills in doubles for everybody on the team," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "The ability to put those into play in matches is really important and I'm pleased to see that no matter who's out on the court in doubles. The doubles point is really important, and this weekend on the road we did a really good job of improving each match in the doubles."

In singles, Berta Passola Folch gave the Bears a 2-0 lead when she bested Aksu 7-6(0), 6-1 and then Jessica Asola put Cal on the precipice of victory with a  6-1, 6-4 win over 30th-ranked Uslu. Playing on court five, Xu topped Laima Frosch 6-3, 6-2 to give Cal a 4-0 lead and wrap up the official win. Cal later collected wins from Lan Mi and, to end the match, Greco Lucchina.

"This was our first time ever playing in Blacksburg, and the team did a really good job of adjusting quickly to the courts," Augustus said. "They're definitely a little bouncier than the courts we played on a couple days ago at Virginia. It's exciting to have an opportunity to play at our new ACC friends' facilities. I'm really proud of our performance in the last two matches as a whole and getting two road wins is great."

Cal hits the road again to play at Florida State on Friday and at Miami next Sunday.
