FRESNO – The California softball team closed the weekend at the Fresno State Invitational with a shutout victory on Sunday against Southern Utah (6-0) at Margie Wright Diamond in Fresno, California.
The Golden Bears improved to 15-4 and have tallied nine consecutive games. During the win streak, the Bears recorded four run-rule victories and held their opponents scoreless on four occasions.
After surrendering a hit in the first inning,
Annabel Teperson and the Bears completely shut down the Thunderbirds, retiring the next 12 batters. Teperson earned her first win this season after pitching a two-hit complete game shutout.
On the offensive side,
Elon Butler tallied the first run of the contest after blasting a ball down the left field line for her fourth home run of the season, giving Cal a 1-0 lead heading into the second inning.
With a runner on second and third base,
Carly Raven knocked in a two-RBI single to right field to give the Bears a 3-0 lead after two innings of play.
In the bottom of the fourth inning,
Holly Medina executed a successful bunt, allowing
Harmony Andrade to advance to third base from second. Andrade rounded third after a throwing error by the Thunderbirds, allowing her to score as the Bears extended the lead to 4-0.
Butler secured her second hit of the day in the sixth inning while bringing two runners across home plate to give the Bears a commanding 6-0 lead en route to securing the win.

Cal will face off against UC Davis on Wednesday before beginning conference play next weekend.
