KENT, Ohio – Junior
Avery Hoeft set a school record with nine assists to lead the California lacrosse team to a 14-7 nonconference victory at Kent State on Monday.
Hoeft assisted on five straight Golden Bear goals at one point, helping Cal stretch its lead to 12-4 early in the fourth quarter. Her total broke the previous single-game program record of six set by Melissa Humphrey, who did it twice (2012, 2013).

The Golden Flashes stayed close for most of the first half but the Bears scored the final three goals of the second quarter to take some momentum into halftime. After Kent St. scored the first goal of the third quarter, Cal scored the next seven goals in a row to take command – with Hoeft assisting on five of them. The Bears led 13-4 with 8:07 to play.
Cal returns home to California Memorial Stadium to resume ACC play against No. 21 Notre Dame on Thursday. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
